Centinela Hospital Medical Center Hosts International Occupational Therapy Students from Japan

Inglewood, CA – March 24, 2010 – Centinela Hospital in Inglewood recently hosted 28 occupational and physical therapy students and their professors from Humanitec Rehabilitation College in Yokkaichi, Japan. The students came to the Inglewood facility to learn about U.S. healthcare practices and gain experience as part of an exchange program with Loma Linda University.

The students met with Brian Ito, Director of the Physical Therapy program at Centinela Hospital. Brian, through an interpreter, explained the treatment protocols used with patients, showed them the hospital’s extensive rehabilitation facilities and then concluded with a question and answer session. Says Brian, “It’s always a joy to be able to help students learn more about their chosen profession. I believe that they gained a greater insight in how we provide care to our patients. Hopefully, they’ll be able to take some of what they learned here in Inglewood back with them to Japan to help their patients after they graduate.”

The visiting students were also given a tour of the hospital including visits to the Tommy Lasorda Heart Institute, the hospital’s busy Emergency Department and to several patient care floors. After their tour, they boarded their bus to take them to their next stop, a visit to Disneyland. Concluded Brian, “I look forward to continuing to build upon this visit by the Humanitec students and hope that this will turn into an annual event. It’s great to see that the reputation that Centinela Hospital has in providing excellent quality care is spreading internationally.”
