Hospital Receives 5-Star Performance Recognition in Nine Additional Treatments, Procedures and Specialties from Healthgrades

Centinela Hospital Medical Center today announced that it achieved 5-Star performance in nine treatments, procedures, and specialties from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. In addition, Healthgrades named Centinela Hospital among the top 5% in the nation for Cardiology Services.

The achievement is part of findings featured in the Healthgrades 2020 Report to the Nation, which underscores the importance of hospital quality to both consumers and hospital executives. Every year, Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 32 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions using Medicare data, and all-payer data from 15 states for bariatrics and appendectomy procedures.*

“The hospitals that stand out for exceptional performance in Cardiology Services should be commended for their long-standing commitment to quality,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Healthgrades. “As consumers are increasingly savvy when it comes to finding and selecting a hospital, patients can be confident when they select a hospital that has achieved this Healthgrades recognition.”

Centinela Hospital Medical Center was named a 5-Star recipient for these nine specific treatments, procedures, and specialties:

  • Treatment of Heart Failure for 7 Years in a Row (2014-2020)
  • Defibrillator Procedures for 6 Years in a Row (2015-2020)
  • Pacemaker Procedures for 7 Years in a Row (2014-2020)
  • Coronary Interventional Procedures (2020)
  • Treatment of Heart Attack (2020)
  • Hip Fracture Treatment for 7 Years in a Row (2014-2020)
  • Spinal Fusion Surgery for 3 years in a Row (2018-2020)
  • Treatment for GI Bleed for 7 Years in a Row (2014-2020
  • Treatment of Sepsis (2020)

“Our team at Centinela Hospital has worked incredibly hard to ensure we deliver and consistently maintain high-quality healthcare services to our community, and it is truly an honor to be nationally recognized by Healthgrades for excellence in Cardiology Services and so many other clinical specialties,” says Mohammad A. Naser, Chief Operating Officer, and Interim Chief Executive Officer, Centinela Hospital Medical Center. “This ongoing recognition by Healthgrades, including being the recipient of its Patient Safety Excellence Award for six years running, is a testament to our unwavering commitment to quality patient care, patient safety, and clinical excellence in everything we do.”

Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected), and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
