INGLEWOOD, Calif. – November 13, 2018 – Centinela Hospital Medical Center was honored
with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, the nation’s leading nonprofit watchdog on hospital quality and safety, in its Fall 2018 biannual report card. This marks the 12th time within a seven-year period that Centinela Hospital has earned the top “A” rating since the inception of Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Scores in 2012.

Centinela Hospital Medical Center was one of only 15 hospitals within Los Angeles County to receive an “A” rating for the Fall 2018 report card. The Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D, or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections, and other harms among patients in their care.

“Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grades recognize hospitals like Centinela Hospital that focus on advancing patient safety. This ranking provides an important resource for patients, and a benchmark for hospitals, to determine how care at one hospital compares to others in a region,” said Leah Binder, president, and CEO, The Leapfrog Group. “Hospitals that earn an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade deserve to be recognized for their efforts in preventing medical harm and errors.”

Developed under the guidance of an expert panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.

“It is gratifying to have earned 12 ‘A’ ratings for Hospital Safety within the last seven years, as we take patient safety very seriously with a hospital-wide initiative that involves the integration of our multi-disciplinary healthcare team and other departments within the hospital to ensure we are earning this grade every day,” says Linda Bradley, Chief Executive Officer, Centinela Hospital Medical Center. “Our doctors, nurses and staff work hard to earn our patients’ trust and provide the very best possible care to Inglewood and the wider Los Angeles area that Centinela Hospital has been serving for more than 90 years.”

Centinela Hospital’s dedication to the community it serves is evident by its $100 million capital expansion and renovation plans. In May 2016, Centinela completed a $55 million seismic retrofit project that included the unveiling of a new hospital front entrance, lobby, admitting department, laboratory, gift shop, and administration offices. In March 2017, it opened its newly
expanded emergency room that includes 10,000 square feet of additional space to increase the
number of emergency room beds to 52. Further remodeling and expansion projects under
construction include: more emergency department upgrades, maternal services and labor &
delivery, radiology, hybrid cath lab, and pharmacy facilities.
