(Inglewood, Calif.) August 10, 2023 – Centinela Hospital Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, today announced that Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services has recognized Centinela Hospital as a STEMI Receiving Center, a designated receiving center for patients with heart attacks.

STEMI, which stands for ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction, is a serious heart attack caused by lack of blood flow to large areas of the heart. Patients experiencing these critical types of heart attacks can get potentially lifesaving care by re-opening blocked arteries in less than 90 minutes, which is the national standard. Emergency medical personnel will pass by non-STEMI hospitals and bring patients directly to the Centinela Hospital emergency room for treatment.

“Earning STEMI designation means that Centinela Hospital has the technology, facility, highly trained medical staff, expert cardiac catheterization laboratory staff and specialty physicians to rapidly diagnose and treat heart attack patients,” said Mohammad Naser, Centinela Hospital Medical Center CEO.

Centinela Hospital is one of the highest rated hospitals in Los Angeles for clinical quality. In addition to its recent STEMI designation, Centinela Hospital is certified by The Joint Commission as a Primary Stroke Center and earned the “Get With the Guidelines Gold Plus Achievement for Heart Failure and Stroke” and is listed on the “Target Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll.”

“Centinela Hospital consistently strives to achieve the highest level of quality care for our patients, and we are proud to be recognized for excellence in cardiac care,” said Sridhar Reddy, MD, an interventional cardiologist and Centinela Hospital’s Medical Director of Cardiology. “Thank you to our Centinela Hospital caregivers from many departments and disciplines who are specially trained and prepared to deliver lifesaving care to patients. We look forward to providing high-quality services, technology and life saving cardiac care to our community.”

Other accolades for Centinela Hospital include recognition as one of the “best hospitals” in the United States by U.S. News & World Report. Inclusion on this list was based on objective quality measures. This acknowledgment from U.S. News & World Report arrives just after another important study from the Lown Institute that placed Centinela Hospital Medical Center among America’s most socially responsible hospitals, a metric derived from measuring clinical outcomes, patient safety, inclusivity, pay equity, community benefit, avoiding overuse, cost efficiency, and patient satisfaction. In addition to receiving an “A” in Social Responsibility, we also received “A” grades in Patient Safety, Health Equity, Value of Care, Community Benefit and Inclusivity.
